Conservation

Under Massachusetts General Law (MGL), Chapter 131, section 40, the Conservation Commission has jurisdiction over the wetlands and their 100-foot buffer zone. Since the inception of the Rivers Protection Act, this buffer zone jurisdiction is increased to 200 feet in the case of a river or running stream. Any work being proposed in these buffer zones requires filing with the Conservation Commission and a public hearing. In addition, the Ludlow Conservation Commission Bylaws require a minimum 25-foot “No Disturb Zone”. For more information, or to request a copy of our Bylaws, contact the Conservation Commission Office at (413) 583-5600, ext. 1282.

Our mission is to protect the interests of the Wetlands Protection Act:

  •  Public/Private Drinking Water Supplies
  •  Groundwater Supplies
  •  Prevention of Pollution
  •  Flood Control
  •  Storm Damage Prevention
  •  Fisheries
  •  Land Containing Shellfish
  •  Wildlife Habitat
